The 275-million-contact database with a sales engine bolted on - B2B prospecting/s unfair advantage, priced for mortals.

Excellent
Our verdictApollo compressed what used to be three subscriptions - a contact database, an email sequencer and a sales dialer - into one tool at a price that made the incumbents sweat. The database is the star: veriable emails and direct dials filtered by role, industry, tech stack and funding stage, deep enough that most SMB prospecting lists build themselves in an afternoon. Sequences and the dialer are competent rather than best-in-class, data accuracy dips outside the US, and the credit math on higher tiers needs reading twice. But dollar-for-dollar, nothing in outbound touches it - which is exactly why it is the default first stack for lean sales teams.

✓ Pros

  • Huge B2B contact database with granular filters (role, size, tech stack, funding) - lists build in minutes
  • Database + sequences + dialer + enrichment in one login replaces 2-3 separate tools
  • Generous free plan makes trying real prospecting workflows possible before paying
  • Chrome extension surfaces contacts and company data directly on LinkedIn profiles

✗ Cons

  • Data accuracy noticeably weaker outside North America - verify before big EU/APAC sends
  • Deliverability depends on your own domain setup; Apollo makes sending easy, not safe
  • UI density and credit accounting have a learning curve; support lags at peak times

Why it took over outbound

The old stack was ZoomInfo for data, Outreach for sequences, a dialer on top - five figures a year before writing one email. Apollo undercut the whole arrangement: a database in the same size class, sequencing and calling built in, at SMB prices with a real free tier. For a founder or a two-person sales team, the pitch is unbeatable: everything you need to run outbound properly, one tool, less than a phone bill.

Living with it

List building is genuinely fast - filter to VP-of-marketing at 50-500-person US software companies using Shopify, and minutes later you have hundreds of verified contacts flowing into a sequence. The LinkedIn extension quietly becomes the most-used part: open a profile, see the verified email, add to sequence, done. The discipline Apollo will not enforce for you is deliverability - warm your domain, throttle your sends, personalize beyond the merge tag - because making sending easy also makes burning your domain easy.

Should you buy it?

If you do B2B outbound at SMB scale, yes, and start on the free plan today - it is the rare freemium that lets you run the actual workflow. Check data quality on your specific geography during the trial; US-centric teams will be delighted, EMEA-heavy teams should sample before committing annual. Enterprise teams with compliance needs and dedicated ops still buy the incumbents - everyone else moved here, for good reason.

Best for

B2B teams and founders doing their own outbound who need contact data, email sequences and dialing in one place.
