Optery review: what $3.99 a month actually removes

Optery is a personal data removal service. It hunts for your profile on data broker and people search sites, files opt-out requests on your behalf, and shows screenshots of what it removed.

The short version: the free tier is a genuine exposure report, Core at $3.99 a month covers 375+ sites, and Ultimate at $24.99 covers 625+ plus custom requests (pricing page, checked October 20, 2026).

This is a documentation review. Nobody here ran the service on a staff profile. Everything below is read from Optery's own pricing page, its help center and public reviews on October 20, 2026.

Why it sits on a marketing site: the same B2B contact databases growth teams buy from - Apollo, Clearbit, LeadIQ, ZoomInfo - sit on Optery's removal list.

  • Good: a free tier that shows real exposure with screenshots, not a teaser.
  • Good: plan-by-plan coverage lists you can search before you pay.
  • Good: a 30-day, no-questions-asked refund on individual accounts, per the pricing page.
  • Watch out: Core caps removals at one name plus one city and state.
  • Watch out: Custom Removal Requests start 30 days in and succeed roughly 75% of the time, per the help center.
  • Watch out: nothing stops a broker relisting you, which is why removals repeat every 30 days.

What Optery actually does

Optery is an opt-out engine, not a VPN and not credit monitoring. It searches broker sites for profiles matching your name, city, state and birth year, then submits removal requests against them.

The vendor says its technology "fills out and submits opt out forms, solves captcha puzzles, clicks verification links, delivers legal demands, and writes and responds to emails automatically" (homepage, checked October 20, 2026).

Proof arrives as screenshots. Exposure Reports show where you were found. Removals Reports on Extended and Ultimate add before-and-after shots roughly every 90 days (help center, checked October 20, 2026).

Opt-outs are not one-and-done. For paying customers, Optery "submits and re-submits opt outs and removal requests a minimum of once every 30 days," per its help center, checked October 20, 2026.

The company lists itself as a Delaware C corporation headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, and displays SOC 2 Type II certification in its footer (checked October 20, 2026).

Who it fits, and who should skip it

It fits people whose home address and phone number are one search away, and whose work makes them easy to look up in the first place.

  • Agency owners and consultants who registered an LLC at a home address.
  • Founders and executives whose names sit on funding announcements and press pages.
  • Outbound sales and recruiting teams who already know how B2B contact data gets bought and sold.
  • Anyone running paid ads on a personal phone number, who is tired of the spam that follows - see our WhatConverts review for keeping that number off the ad account in the first place.
  • People in Optery's discount categories: teachers, healthcare workers, public servants, seniors, students, and victims of stalking, harassment or domestic violence (promo codes page, checked October 20, 2026).

Skip it if one of these is true:

  • You want your name off Google itself. Optery removes broker listings; it does not control what search engines rank.
  • You expect spam to stop outright. Several reviewers on Trustpilot report calls and texts continuing after removals.
  • You only want a one-off cleanup. The value here is the monthly re-submission, which is a subscription by design.

What the free plan covers, and where it stops

Free Basic is more than a lead magnet. It delivers a personalized Exposure Report with screenshots, scans your Google and Bing results, and hands you self-service removal tools (pricing page, checked October 20, 2026).

It also includes unlimited name variations and unlimited past cities and states - but only for the self-service tools, not for automated removals (pricing page, checked October 20, 2026).

Free accounts rescan "approximately every 3 months (quarterly) provided you've logged into the account in the last 3 months," per the help center. Paid accounts run at least monthly.

No credit card is required for Free Basic, per the pricing page. The honest use of it is reconnaissance: see the list, then decide whether $39 a year beats doing the opt-outs yourself.

How the four plans price out

Every figure below is the US list price on Optery's pricing page, read on October 20, 2026. The same page shows annual billing at 17% below monthly.

  • Free Basic - $0. Exposure Report, self-service removal tools, quarterly rescans, no card required.
  • Core - $3.99/month, or $3.25/month billed yearly ($39 a year). Automated removals from 375+ sites, capped at one name plus one city and state.
  • Extended - $14.99/month, or $12.42/month billed yearly ($149 a year). 555+ sites, unlimited name variations, an assigned human Privacy Agent, removals reports every ~90 days.
  • Ultimate - $24.99/month, or $20.70/month billed yearly ($249 a year). 625+ sites, unlimited Custom Removal Requests toward 940+ sites total, priority email support.

Those site counts fall sharply if you decline Expanded Reach: 150+ instead of 375+ on Core, 325+ instead of 555+ on Extended, 400+ instead of 625+ on Ultimate (pricing page, checked October 20, 2026).

Optery also publishes standing 20% discount codes for military and veterans, healthcare workers, teachers, public servants, seniors, students, and victims of stalking, domestic violence, assault, harassment and identity theft.

That page states the codes give "20% off any plan, forever," that proof of eligibility is not required, and that codes cannot be combined with other promotions or with Family and Business subscriptions (checked October 20, 2026).

A site-wide code, FALL2026, was shown for 20% off at checkout on October 20, 2026. Sale codes move, so read the banner before you pay rather than trusting any review's number.

Refunds, verbatim: "If you're not satisfied with your purchase within 30 days, we offer a 'No Questions Asked' 30-Day Money Back Guarantee for individual accounts." Business accounts are excluded.

The B2B databases growth teams buy from are on Optery's removal list

This is the part that makes Optery a marketing-stack story rather than a consumer one. Its published coverage list is full of the vendors that sell B2B contact data to growth teams.

  • Core plan list: Apollo, LeadIQ, Spokeo.
  • Extended plan list: Clearbit, BeenVerified.
  • Ultimate plan list: ZoomInfo, Whitepages.
  • Expanded Reach list: Lead411.
  • Custom Removals (Ultimate, best effort): Clay, Hunter.

All five groupings were read on the pricing page on October 20, 2026. If your team prospects with Apollo, lemlist or Dripify, you are on both sides of this trade.

That is not hypocrisy, it is a budget line. Our Dripify vs lemlist comparison covers the outreach half; Optery covers the half where your own number leaks out.

One caution worth naming. The higher coverage tiers lean on Expanded Reach, which Optery says "may send your personal info (e.g. full name, city and state) to data brokers that didn't have it in the first place."

Read that sentence twice before enabling it. The trade is wider coverage against handing your name to brokers who may not have been holding it yet.

What Optery does not promise

Read the help center before the marketing. Three limits are stated plainly by the vendor, and they are the three that decide whether the subscription is worth renewing.

  • Custom Removal Requests begin 30 days after an Ultimate subscription is purchased, and roughly 75% succeed; the rest do not.
  • Timing is not guaranteed. Optery makes "no representations, warranties, promises or guarantees whatsoever regarding the success or timing of removals" for unsupported brokers, and notes some take up to eight months.
  • Resubmission is capped at one repeat request per broker every 12 months.

Core's single name, city and state limit is the one most buyers hit. If you have moved twice or carry a maiden name, Core under-covers you and Extended is the real entry price.

None of this is unusual for the category. Publishing it is unusual, and that transparency is the strongest argument for the product - stronger than any of the award badges on the homepage.

What users report

Trustpilot lists Optery at 4 out of 5, labelled "Great" (checked October 20, 2026). The page did not render a reliable total review count for us, so we read the recent reviews individually instead.

Positive reviews cluster on thoroughness and on support response. One reviewer, on October 3, 2026, wrote that Optery "found stuff online about me that I had no idea was out there."

Negative reviews cluster on two complaints: spam that did not stop, and billing. A September 28, 2026 review reports more calls after signing up; another describes repeated charge attempts after cancelling.

Optery replies publicly to both kinds, including the billing complaint, which beats silence. No individual account outcome was verified here, in either direction.

Treat all of it as directional. Reviews are self-selected, and a removals service is judged on something no reviewer can see: what would have happened without it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Optery free?

Partly. Free Basic costs $0, needs no credit card, and delivers an Exposure Report with screenshots plus self-service removal tools. Automated removals start at $3.99 a month, or $39 billed yearly (pricing page, October 20, 2026).

How many sites does Optery cover?

The homepage claims 940+ sites. Automated removals are capped by plan: 375+ on Core, 555+ on Extended, 625+ on Ultimate. Reaching 940+ requires Ultimate's Custom Removal Requests, which are best-effort (checked October 20, 2026).

Which Optery plan should a small business owner buy?

Extended, in most cases. Core allows only one name plus one city and state for removals, which breaks for anyone who has moved or changed names. Extended lists $149 billed yearly (pricing page, October 20, 2026).

Does Optery stop spam calls and texts?

It is not promised. Optery removes broker listings that feed spam lists, but Trustpilot reviewers report mixed results, including one on September 28, 2026 reporting more calls. Expect reduced exposure, not silence.

Can I cancel Optery and get a refund?

Individual accounts get a 30-day, no-questions-asked money-back guarantee and can cancel any time, per the pricing page. Business accounts are excluded. Some Trustpilot reviewers report friction cancelling, so keep your confirmation email.

Is Optery worth it for a marketing agency owner?

If your LLC is registered at your home address, probably. $149 a year for Extended is small against one doxxing incident. Budget it as security spend, not as growth spend - it will not win you clients.

Bottom line

Optery is the most transparent product in a category built on vagueness. It publishes its site list, its plan limits, its success rate on custom requests and its refund terms, with no login required.

Buy Extended if you have ever moved or changed names. Buy Core only if one name and one address really is your whole history. Start on Free Basic either way - it costs nothing and shows you the scale.
